In Court

In Court By Z.P. Florian

This story has to start with the summary of events preceeding it. (Another Sky 1, 3, 4) After the fall of the Emperor, Luke Skywalker acquired, from an Imperial research institute, twenty-four stasis boxes containing clones of himself. The clones, grown to the equivalent of seven year old boys, but ere totally blank in the mind at the time. Luke freed them. They were raised by Luke, Han, Leia, Chewie and the droids on a friendly planet called Irfogan. Luke considered it extremely important that all of them must eventually develop into individual characters. To accomplish this, he sent his sons to different planets in groups of threes and fours.

" This individuality business is tiring." Bail complained, stretching on the lounge chair. His brothers, Ben and Ari, listened with sympathy. The living curtain of Bothan ivy cast playful shadows on their identical faces. All three of the boys had fashionable short hair, parted on the side, much blonder than usual thanks to the combined effects of Caveat's harsh sun and the herbal shampoo the court hairstylist insisted on using. The deep blue tunics they wore emphasized the color of their eyes.

" Four months since Ta kicked us out into the wide galaxy, and you know what, we got the worst place." Bail continued. " All the others are having heaps of fun. Kin got four blaster shots in him in some portside brawl, and Owen's group was lost six weeks in Farspace, nearly starving to death.."

" And Che's bunch got deported from Takkan, for disturbing the peace. And Thor had Padolan fever. Nothing ever happes to us." Ben eyed the loaded tray in front of them. " Baron Calrissian is spoiling us to death. This lordly living is not good for us. This is even more peaceful than Irfogsn. I'm sure this isn't what Ta had in mind. What kind of experience is this for a Jedi? Balls, dinners, dinners, balls.".

Bail admitted that the operas and concerts were nice, and Ari said he liked the boarings. Ben picked up a fruit and put it back down, then picked up another. .

" We need something to do." He said. " I'm sure Ta had no idea how utterly eventless life is on Caveat. Ta wouldn't want us to die of boredom. This is no way to develop individuality, I say."

" Yeah, we're all equally bored!" Bail grumbled.

" Ari! Ari! Ben! Bail!".

Lively female voices called their names. Ari groaned and rose to his feet.

" Not again." Bail sighed. " I bet it's Lynna and her friends."

Ari went to the balcony and looked down to the garden..

" They can't !" Ben protested. " Evyta and her three sisters are coming over for dinner."

" Impossible!" Bail shook his blond head. " I invited Clary and the Vyola twins for dessert after second night bell. " Aw, this is ridiculous. Why are you inviting people without asking me?" Ari asked, annoyed. " I already told Syria, Pya and Mya that we're free tonight, and they're coming at the first bell."

The three boys stared at each other.

" So?" Bail asked.

" There is no escape." Ben said bravely. " We just have to make the best of it. It's too late now to do anyting. They would be horribly insulted. You know how Ta told us to never be rude and inconsiderate.".

" yeah, and how we should always be nice to female creatures." Ari added. " Like it or not, we have to make sure all of the girls have a good time. We'll all eat together, listen to a little music, and-you know- we can spend a little time with each of them, one by one."

" Three Jedi can accomplish a lot." Bail agreed. " Ta wouldn't be disappointed, I'm sure."

" Still," Ben sighed. " I wish we could be somewhere else, and have adventures like the others. How are we ever going to develop individuality if the girls like all three of us the same?"

"Yeah, well, this is our lot. We have to take it as it comes." Ari said wisely and went to open the door to let in the first group of lovely and eager beauties. Only about six or seven of them.
