Reflections of Truth
Y'know it seems like yesterday
That I was snapping at that wide-eyed kid.
An impetuous, loudmouthed blond
Who put me in my place more than once since then.
Yeah, I was the last one to think
That a farmboy from a sandy dustball
In the middle of nowhere
Was gonna teach me a thing or two.
But he did-
When no one else cared
The kid chimed in his loyalty loud.
And the way we used to argue over.
Who was the better for Leia- he was, really.
But, she's his sister!
He taught me lotsa stuff
That would sound ludicrous spewing out of
My big, loud, Corellian mouth
But I'll tell ya anyway.
If it weren't for Luke
I wouldn't know love- true love,
I wouldn't know the value
Of life...money and the Falcon
Were all I knew
Until he organized my salvation at Jabba's.
He'd grown.
The reckless, brave and sometimes
Seemingly suicidal Skywalker
Shed his innocence
For strength, resolve and smarts.
Yeah, I know, 'wisdom' sounds better
But, it's not proper falling out of my mouth.
He'd grown, and unknowingly
Dragged me along for the ride.
I can't thank him enough.
You know, a better friend
I couldn't ask for.
A diligent, no-nonsense warrior
And someone to keep this old pirate
In check now and again.
Yeah, that kid.
May the Force always be with him.
